As for the movie itself, I can sum up TDKR in one word: WOW. The Nolans are masters at their craft, but they knew any chance to surpass TDK would be futile. Instead, they turned in the absolute perfect ending to what may have become my favorite movie trilogy. I cannot wait to get the entire trilogy on Blu-ray, so I can marathon through it on a regular basis.
With any movie, there are always those who nitpick plot holes. I will address those now, however, if you are one of the few who have yet to see this movie, there will be spoilers ahead. You've been warned.
- "There was a lack of explanation of Bane's mask." I don't agree with this at all. We were told it subdued his pain. Isn't that enough? Had they gone into more detail about it, Nolan would undoubtedly create the same issue Star Wars has, in regards to midi-chlorians powering the Force.
- "How did Bruce Wayne get back to Gotham after escaping the pit?" Well, this isn't a movie about travelling. Did they ever show him driving out of the Bat Cave to downtown Gotham? Not that I can recall. And really, is it that important? In the dialogue, we're told it has been months. Maybe, he walked or borrowed someone's bicycle.
- "Bane was too different than the comics." While this is true, I do not view it as a problem. This trilogy is meant to be more realistic than the comics. Bane in a luchador mask with venom tanks strapped to his back would not have achieved that goal.
As I've already made clear, I loved this movie. Upon seeing it, my initial review was simply "This wasn't the Batman movie I wanted; this was the Batman movie I NEEDED." Days later, I stand by that sentiment.
